A Day With My Family...

Have you ever wondered, what life in a household of eight people would be like? I can help answer that. It is very hectic if you are attempting to leave the house with all of them and trying to make it to your destination on time. If you are someone who likes privacy and 'alone time', then this is probably not an ideal household for you. Yet if that isn't a problem, here is what a day in our household would be like-
    - You would start being aware of movement on the lower floor at about 5:30 in the morning. Depending on          how much movement you heard you might be able to sleep in till about 7:30, on the weekends. Yet, during the rest of the week, since most of our household is under the age of eighteen, and home-schooled, you'd rise a little earlier. Usually school starts around 7:00, so to be ready to start at that time you'd probably get up about 6:00 or earlier.
     - You would go downstairs (since my family lives in a two-story home) to the kitchen, after getting around for the day. If you're a coffee drinker, you would turn to the coffee machine, only to find that it is empty. It was emptied earlier by the others who drink coffee. In which case, you would have to brew more. If you are someone who enjoys eating breakfast, cold cereal or (on an occasion) baked goods. You would be rushed through it, so that dishes could be washed.
     - Next, school would start. You would hear instruments being practiced, and the sounds of scribbling throughout the rest of the morning, as all the children were in a flurry to become the next 'Student of the Week'.
-Lunch would come about 11:00 or so. The meal could range from leftovers from dinner the previous night, to a new recipe that Mom might try. Dishes would be done again, as they are hand-washed at each meal, and coffee would be made for the last time that day.
-As the afternoon comes, the house fall remarkable quiet. You'd look to figure out why, only to find that it is in attempt to get the younger siblings to take a nap. The older siblings would read, or write (whichever was scheduled for them at the time). Yet at 2:30 (or so), the older siblings would make their way to the kitchen table for Art/Music Appreciation. Coffee mugs and opened books would cover the table, as an elaborate discussion on the chosen artist or musician took place.
-Then, as 3:00 approached, the house moves into a chaotic stage. On different days, different extra-curricular activities were scheduled. Rose, one of the younger siblings, would head to ballet, whereas Elise and myself would head to orchestra.
-Later that night, everyone would eventually make it home, to have dinner.
-Afterward, everyone might head to their rooms for some quiet time before bed. They might read, write, listen to some music (very quietly), or just head to bed.

So now that you have had a chance to observe what life is like in a household of eight, what do you think? Is this a household you think you might be able to live in?
Hope this post has not put you off from this lifestyle. Yes, living in a large household has its pros and cons. Yet, I find it to be very rewarding and definitely wouldn't want to walk away from anytime soon.

Thanks for reading!
